TCU’s Writing Associates Program is a peer-based, discipline-specific initiative, designed to support and improve student writing University-wide.  Writing Associates – undergraduate and graduate students trained in writing methodology and pedagogy – are linked with a specific class for an entire semester.

Writing Associates will read and comment on all of the students’ major writing assignments, meeting individually with students to discuss writing development. On the assigned due date, the faculty member receives both the student’s rough draft with the Writing Associate’s comments and the student’s revised paper, allowing the professor to keep track of student writing. Each Associate will be responsible for 15 to 20 student writers; two or more associates will be assigned larger classes or sections.

This long-term collaborative relationship differs significantly from the short-term, generalized writing advice offered by the William L. Adams Center for Writing.  Associates focus their writing instruction based on the understanding that writing is a teachable, collaborative process. They equip student writers with the foundational tools for writing in both academia and within specific disciplines.
